Music Teachers Association
Students participate in the GMTA audition programs which are dedicated
to the promotion of excellence in solo and chamber music performance.
Student will compete with others in the same school grade. Outstanding
Performer, Award of Excellence and Honorable Mention ratings will
be selected from several divisions, including piano solo, piano
concerto, instrumental concerto, voice, organ, strings, woodwinds,
brass, classical guitar and percussion. Several
Outstanding Performers, the highest award, are chosen. One of these
students from each grade in each division will be selected by the
judge as a “Conference Recitalist” – the first
place winner and will perform at the GMTA Conference in the fall.
Piano students must compete and win in the local association auditions
before they can proceed to the state level auditions.

Georgia
Music Educators Association
GMEA all-state events include student concerto auditions and district
piano festival. The piano audition is held in December. Entrants perform
2 selections of contrasting style and periods of music. Students who achieve
“Superior” or “Excellent” ratings will receive
certificates of merit and medals. Piano Solo Auditions are held in December
for Junior High and Senior High students. Winners will perform at the
GMEA In-Service Conference in January. The All-State Concerto Auditions
is held in odd years.
Other
Audition and Competition Opportunities
Students have the opportunities to participate in the instrumental solo
and ensemble festivals, Bach Competition for piano, voice, and organ,
Jo Evans Competition for piano solo, Rachel Howard Scholarship audition,
etc.
